Strong Outlook for Larnaca Winter Tourism
Larnaca winter tourism is on track for steady growth in 2025. Hotels across the city will remain open during the colder months, showing confidence in year-round demand. Moreover, the Larnaca Hoteliers Association president, Marios Polyviou, highlighted that the United Kingdom, Israel, and Poland remain the three most important winter markets. Regular flights from these countries will keep operating through Larnaca International Airport, and therefore ensure strong connectivity throughout the season.
Wizz Air Boosts Connectivity
Polyviou also pointed to Wizz Air’s flight schedule as a major strength for Larnaca winter tourism. The airline connects the city with multiple European destinations, and in addition, continues to expand its reach. On September 18, Wizz Air will host a special event at Larnaca Airport to celebrate two milestones: five years since opening its Cyprus base and ten million passengers to and from the island. As a result, the airline strengthens its position as a vital player in the local tourism industry. Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis and Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis will also attend the event to deliver greetings, which further underlines the importance of Wizz Air to Cyprus.
Summer Season Performance
Tourism activity in summer 2025 reached very good levels, and hotels reported strong occupancy rates up to the end of August. In fact, July overnight stays rose by 3% compared with the same month in 2024. Consequently, these results confirm steady demand and a solid summer season for the city.
Growing Demand for Airbnb Rentals
Meanwhile, more international visitors now choose Airbnb apartments when staying in Larnaca. Local owners continue to add properties to the platform, and as a result, travelers have more options beyond hotels. This trend not only expands the city’s accommodation supply but also meets demand from tourists who prefer short-term rental stays.
New Hotel Developments in Larnaca
In addition to the growth of Airbnb, Larnaca is attracting strong investment in new tourism infrastructure. Around 20 new hotels are currently in the planning stage, and most of them focus on boutique properties located in the city’s commercial center. Moreover, investors — both foreign and local — view Larnaca as an appealing destination with long-term growth potential.
The Larnaca Town Planning Department supports this outlook with clear data. Between January and July 2025, the department received 1,295 building permit applications. This figure represents a 53% increase compared with the same period in 2024, and even more impressively, a 73% rise compared with 2022. Therefore, the number of new projects reflects strong confidence in the city’s economic and tourism prospects. Many of these permits involve boutique hotel projects, which will soon add more accommodation choices for visitors.
Confidence in Year-Round Tourism
Taken together, the combination of stable flight connections, strong summer performance, rising Airbnb demand, and new hotel investments paints a very positive picture. Consequently, Larnaca is no longer only a summer destination. Instead, it is evolving into a year-round tourism hub with options for every type of traveler.
For visitors, the city now offers reliable flights, diverse accommodations, and a lively atmosphere even in winter. For investors, the rising number of projects and the steady growth in visitor demand present clear opportunities. Therefore, as industry leaders confirm, Larnaca is moving steadily toward becoming one of Cyprus’s strongest all-season destinations.
