New Ferry Link Between Cyprus and Lebanon Confirmed
Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades has officially confirmed that investors plan to launch a new passenger ferry service connecting Larnaca (Cyprus) with Jounieh (Lebanon). The government supports the initiative, aimed at enhancing island connectivity and facilitating tourism and trade. While operators expect services to begin “imminently,” no exact start date has been set.
The estimated voyage time between Larnaca and Jounieh is approximately four hours. Travelers from the EU, UK, USA, Russia, Australia, and Turkey can enter Lebanon with a 30-day tourist visa—provided passports do not show Israeli stamps.
Jounieh, just northeast of Beirut, is famed for its seaside resorts, historic souk, vibrant nightlife, and the gondola ride up to Harissa’s Our Lady of Lebanon shrine.
With ferry connections already operating between Cyprus and Greece during summer months, the new Cyprus–Lebanon route complements existing services. Deputy Shipping Minister Maria Hadjimanoli emphasizes that ferry travel benefits those who face air‑travel challenges due to health, age, or anxiety.
Why It Matters for Real Estate & Local Markets
- Improved access to Cyprus enhances appeal to international property buyers and tourists.
- Boosted tourism in coastal cities like Larnaca and Jounieh could elevate demand for hospitality and holiday accommodation.
- Enhanced regional connectivity may stimulate investment in waterfront developments and commercial infrastructure.
